BMAI Mission Statement


The mission of the Beach Music Association International is to broaden Beach Music's appeal to a wider audience by organizing various elements of Beach Music into an entity called The Beach Music Association (BMAI). Representatives of these elements are team players who believe that together they can better promote Beach Music's growth and share in that growth. The entity's goals are:

To again make the music as defined the controlling factor in what is Beach Music
To reach sponsors by offering the big picture to them (products, artists, recordings, video, television, movies, Internet services, concerts, speakers on its history, bookings, books, a museum etc.)
To educate the public and young people in particular to assure that this music will be carried on
To support and promote those active in the industry
To remember and honor its pioneers
To watchdog the industry's credibility
To work with legislators
To bring diverse people together in a harmonious manner

Beach Music Day Press Release

In 2001, the South Carolina General Assembly declared Beach Music as the "Official Popular Music of South Carolina," and on May 15th, the Beach Music Association International will again host the seventh annual Beach Music Day. The celebration is free and open to the public and begins at 3 PM on the Statehouse steps in Columbia, rain or shine.

This year’s event will salute New Orleans music’s influence on Beach Music. Expected to appear are New Orleans entertainers Willie Tee, The Dixie Cups, and Herbert Hardesty, (Fats Domino’s band leader and lead saxophonist) along with Bill Pinkney, Billy Scott, Ceasar and the Sugarbees, The Flashbacks, Drink Small, The Fabulous Shades, Second Nature, Clay Brown, Calabash Flash, Sound Factory Band, Donny & Susan Trexler, The Royal Scotsman, Larissa Holliday, Ricky Godfrey, The Footnotes, The Sensational Epics, Dave Freeman and others.

Leon Everett & Country Cross will perform a Christian selection after the invocation followed by SC House member Cathy Harvin doing a patriotic song. Additionally, there will be a special appearance by Miss South Carolina and the current Miss South Carolina contestants. Later that evening in the Clarion Hotel Ballroom there will be a free to the public party featuring the host band, Caesar and the Sugarbees and an all-star jam with the other artists.

The goal of Beach Music Association International is to broaden Beach Music’s appeal to a wider audience by organizing various elements of Beach Music, supporting and promoting those in the industry, working with state legislators, remembering and honoring Beach Music’s pioneers, bringing diverse people together in a harmonious manner and educating the public and young people to assure that this music will be carried on to future generations.

Expected to appear at the North Carolina Beach Music Day in Raleigh on May 22,2007 are The Embers, Maurice Williams, The Orlons, Band of Oz, Sammy O'Banion, Roy Roberts, Boys Club and a Babe, Clifford Curry, Donna Groom of the Skyliners, Al Williams, Dink Perry, Billy Scott, Dave Freeman, Calabash Flash, plus a special appearance by The Clovers and others.
